Respect your rink
Respect your parents and coaches
Look your coach in the eye and give him a nice firm handshake
They told the kids the most important thing about hockey was 1st, your grades in school, 2nd being a good friend, and 3rd your skills on the ice.
They encouraged them to play others sports so they don't burn out by 13 or 14 years old.
I found all of these and so many other tidbits of advice extremely applicable and appreciated their approach to teaching the kids.
It was a really strenuous week with 3 hours of ice time, 1.5 hours of dry land training, and 1 hour of "chalk talk" each day (that is quite a bit of hockey for a 6 yr old). We were there approximately 6 hours a day between sessions, changing, and lunch, and the day seemed to fly by. Brogan did really well, his calm patient demeanor paid off in the end when on their final day they scrimmaged and he scored 2 goals for his team. (A big accomplishment when your playing with 7,8, 9 & 10 yr olds)!
Here is some video of the training and some pictures from the week. I can't wait for the season to start and see how much he has progressed over the year. So long BP... Junior Mites, here we come!
